EATON, IN
Melvin
A. Rees, 86, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Kindred Transitional Care
in Muncie.
Melvin
was born on October 9, 1926, in Redkey, Indiana to Arthur A. and Martha “Louise” (Becknell) Rees and
attended schools there. He married Martha Shultz in Redkey, July 27, 1946.
He
served his country in the United States Navy, during WWII, aboard the USS
President Monroe, in the South Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1987 after 42
years of employment with Norfolk Southern Railroad as a conductor. Melvin attended
the Redkey Church of the Nazarene, had been a member of the American Legion
Post #90, Eaton and was a member of the United Transportation Union of
Cleveland.
He
is survived by his wife, Martha; 2 sons, Rick (Linda) Rees of Vincennes, IN,
and Larry Rees of Eaton; two brothers, Elvin Rees of Redkey, and Kenneth Rees
(Joann) of Hartford City; three grandchildren; Shane (Misty) Rees, Angie (Chad)
Fisher and Ashley (Dane) Cantwell. Seven great-grandchildren; Makayla, Macey,
and Mallory Fisher, Brooklynne, Savannah, and Madysen Rees, and Wyatt Cantwell;
as well as several nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his father on March 31, 1987, his mother on March 13,
1983 and twin sisters, Dorothy Rees on May 23, 1922 and Doris Holloway on June
30, 1998.
Funeral
services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Pitman-Richman
Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, with Pastor Rob Farris officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie, with military rites by
Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation
for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00
P.M. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
