R. Glen Cross

EATON, IN

R. Glen Cross, 78, passed away, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Glen was born to Fred and Lillie (Waskom) Cross on August 11, 1933 in Bedford, Indiana. He was a graduate of Eaton High School, class of 1952 and served his country in the Army Air Corps.

On November 26, 1983 he married Becky Fuqua in Hartford City. Glen worked for Norfolk & Southern Railroad and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Albany, Amvets Post #23, Hartford City, and the American Legion, Gaston. Glen resided in the Eaton area most of his life and attended the Church of God in Eaton.

In 1964, Glen, along with his father and brothers, started Lakeview Golf Course in Eaton. Glen and Becky also owned and operated the Country Cupboard for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Cross, three sons: Trent Cross (Patricia), Marty Cross, and Rodney Cross, a brother Harold Cross (Janet), 8 grandchildren: Andy Lechien, Derrick Lechien, Drew Cross, Tyler Cross, Lauren Cross, Justin Cross, Kaitlyn Cross, and Katelyn Arnold, 5 great-grandchildren: Ethan Lechien, Elijah Lechien, Isabella Lechien, Braedon Lechien, and Sophia Lechien, a sister-in-law, Linda Cross, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Lechien, who died on December 19, 2011, and a brother, Arnold Cross.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Andy Denniston officiating. Burial with Military Rites by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday, December 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with a Masonic service starting at 8:00 pm.

Valerie L. Lechien

EATON, IN

Valerie L. Lechien, 53, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after courageously battling Multiple Myeloma for the past year.

Valerie was born on February, 26, 1958 in Hartford City to Robert G. Cross and Sandra R. Howell. She lived as a young girl in Zionsville, IN., moving to Eaton, IN at the age of 6 where she remained for most of her adult life. She graduated from Delta High School in 1976 and from Ivy Tech School of Nursing in 1997. On November 20, 1976 she married Mark Lechien at the First Christian Church in Eaton.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She worked as a nurse from 1997 until her death. She was employed as a surgical nurse from 2000 to 2011; at the time of her illness she served as a nurse for the Family Practice Residency Center of IU Health, Ball Memorial Hospital. She was a member of “Indy Surviveoars” (INSO), breast cancer survivors dragon boat racing team and traveled all over the United States & Canada to compete. She competed in the World Championships in Peterbrough, ON, Canada in 2010 where her team finished 1st in their division.

Valerie is a member of the Gathering Church in Muncie. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, and traveling. She most enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years Mark A. Lechien, two sons, Marc A. Lechien and Derrick A. Lechien (wife, Cassie), her grandchildren: Ethan Lechien, Elijah Lechien, Braedon Lechien, Isabella Lechien, and Sophia Lechien. Her father and mother-in-law, Richard M. And arolyn S. Lechien, her father, Robert G. Cross (wife, Becky), and mother, Sandra R. Howell, three brothers: Trent Cross (wife, Patricia), Marty Cross, and Rodney Cross, brothers-in-law Marty Lechien (wife, Elaine), Monty Lechien (wife, Kris), a sister-in-law, Marcy McCormack (husband, Matt), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Joshua Brandt officiating. Burial will follow at the Hartford City Cemetery.

Visitation for friends and family will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, December 22 and one hour prior to services Friday.

Emma C. Pursifull, 107

Eaton, IN

Emma C (Gilland) Pursifull, 107, passed away December 5, 2011 at the Golden Living Center, Muncie.

Emma was born in Delaware County on October 26, 1904 to Othe and Julia (Hummer) Gilland. She and her family moved to the Eaton area when she was 3 years old. She attended Eaton schools and married Paul L. Pursifull.

Emma lived in the Eaton area for most of her life. For 20 years, Paul, Emma, and their children lived on a farm near Dunkirk. Emma was a homemaker and attended the Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her son, Eugene Pursifull (Kay), 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1963, a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Shane, grandson Mike, great granddaughter Ashleigh and four brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 9, 2011at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Tom Fett of the Dunkirk Church of the Nazarene presiding.. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 12 Noon until 2:00 pm. Friday.

Robert L. Dungan, 70

Parker City, IN

Robert L. Dungan, 70, passed away, Thursday, December 1, 2011 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Robert was born on June, 8, 1941 in Alexandria, Indiana. He graduated from Royerton High School and went on to serve his country in the Army. He married Linda Knott on February, 17, 1992 in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Dungan moved to West Lafayette where he worked as Police Officer and Real Estate Developer, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the FOP and was on the committee for the Feast of the Hunters Moon. Robert collected tools and enjoyed wood working.

He is survived by his wife Linda Dungan, a daughter, Deborah Hemme, three step-children: Tracy Stephens, Erik Knott, and Kevin Knott (Jana), five brothers: Paul Caldwell (Mary), Phillip Caldwell, Ed Caldwell (Brenda), Charles “Hank” Caldwell, John Caldwell (Deborah), a sister, Roberta Lynn, two grandchildren, Colin and Gareth Hemme, 5 step grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren and former wife, Karen Gardner.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Dungan-Caldwell.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am. Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the VA Cemetery, Marion.

Visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday, December 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and one hour prior to services Monday.
