Waltraud (Trudy) U.M. Duke

EATON, IN

Waltraud (Trudy) U.M. Duke, 76, formerly of Eaton, died unexpectedly Monday in Kalamazoo, MI.

She was born August 31, 1936 in Frankfurt, Germany.  Mrs. Duke was a homemaker who excelled at her profession. Her lifetime passions were her family, enjoyment of other people, fondness of animals, and dedication to her husband of 52 years.

Survivors include her loving husband, Timothy Duke of Michigan; 2 daughters, Monika Harris-Gieschke (husband: Paul) and Sandra Doshi (husband: Robert); a brother, Hans Seipp (wife: Malleas); 7 grandchildren, Austin Duke, Timothy Duke, Jacob Wolin, Hannah Wolin, Emma Doshi, Nathan Doshi, and Sydney Doshi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Karl Seipp; in-laws, Calvin and LaVaughn Duke; and son, Tony Duke.

Trudy grew up in Germany during WWII.  In 1961, she married her beloved Tim, a US Airman, and moved with him to Eaton.  She helped her husband build their home and raise her family.  They later moved to Rochester, IN where they enjoyed a lake home for several years.  In 1997, they moved to Michigan where Trudy enjoyed the remainder of her life watching her grandchildren grow and thrive.

Trudy was a loving, hard-working, fierce defender of her family and friends.  She was first and foremost filled with love and compassion for those less fortunate.  She was spunky, funny, and sassy.  Her quick laughter will be missed.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford Street., with Pastor Anna Shanks of the Eaton United Methodist Church presiding.  Burial will follow the services at Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Friends may call at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of services.

Trudy’s favorite color was purple and purple flowers would be welcome.
