Frances Virginia (Foorman) Dorton, 91

Frances Virginia (Foorman) Dorton, 91, passed away, July 28, 2010 in Ball Memorial Hospital.

The daughter of Frank and Cuba (Vineyard) Foorman, she was born May 6, 1919 in the Foorman home which has been in the family since 1898. An Eaton resident most of her life, Frances graduated from Eaton High School, received a state scholarship to Purdue University and also attended Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio.

Frances married Robert Dorton on April 4, 1941. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1986. Mrs. Dorton was involved in many community affairs, serving as a board member of the Little Red Door Cancer Services of Delaware County for 39 years. She also served on the boards of the American Red Cross and March of Dimes. Frances was the author of the history of Eaton for the Centennial Book in 1954. She was instrumental in starting the Eaton Community Service Club, where she served as Secretary and helped start the Danny Howard Community Park. Frances started a Camp Fire Girls group, later becoming the Girl Scouts.

She was a life member of the Eaton United Methodist Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority since 1937; serving in most of the offices. Frances also enjoyed her bridge clubs and her neighborhood social groups.

She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Alice Wilhoite (husband, James) of Muncie, and Cynthia Louise (Sis) Burkett (husband, James), of Pinellas Park, Florida, grandchildren, Roy W. and Robert Scott Douglass, Anne Marie La Rue (husband, John), and Tanya Wilhoite, great-grandchildren, Lynsey and Steven Douglass, Madeline Douglass and Hannah and Virginia Wilhoite.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Charles Hahn, her husband of 45 years, Robert, a daughter, Margaret Ann (Peggy) Douglass, a brother, William A. Foorman, a sister, Sara C. Kirkman, and a grandson James Wilhoite.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm. Monday, August 2, 2010 in the Eaton United Methodist Church, 219 E. South St. Eaton, with Pastor Keith Williams presiding. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Friends may call Monday, at the church from 12 Noon until 2:00 pm.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Eaton United Methodist Church, Little Red Door Cancer Services of Delaware County, and Ball Memorial Hospice.
