Kathleen Cates McClain


EATON, IN

Kathleen Cates McClain, 90, passed away, on February 29, 2016 at Morrison Woods in Muncie.

Kathleen was born on April 25, 1925 in Delaware County to Ernest and Ruth (Stephenson) Justice.  She graduated from Harrison Township School in 1943 and married Hobart Cates on March 8, 1946.   Together they would raise their four children on the family farm.  Hobart passed away on February 6, 1974. 

On April 15, 1978, Kathleen married George McClain. 

Kathleen was a member of Dunkirk Mount Tabor Methodist Church, where she served in several capacities.   She loved gardening, sewing and baking.

Kathleen is survived by her children: Elaine Arnold (John Nuckols), Hartford City, Helen Schache, Tampa, FL, Louise Schnepf (husband, Dave), Albany, Keith Cates of Muncie, Marty McClain (wife, Teresa), Muncie, Doug McClain (wife, Tina), Geneva, IL, Scott McClain (wife, Amy), Albany, Mark Tobias (wife, Janice) of Zanesville, a sister, Ona Frances Hussey of Ann Arbor, MI, twelve grandchildren: Johnna Schache  (Roger Davenport) Stacey Rupp (husband, Jim), Trista Kikendall (husband, Ryan), Dawn Arnold, Cami Reynolds (husband, Corey), LeShea Cates-Cullison (Kathy), Tyler VanMeter, Chase McClain, Noah Tobias, Anne Mei McClain, Evan McClain, and Eleanor McClain, her great-grandchildren: Brayton Myrick, Ashlyn Reynolds, Olivia Smith, Owen Rupp, Keeleigh Kikendall, Quentin Smith, Kade Kikendall, Zac Reynolds, Mallory Rupp, and Karter Kikendall, extended family member, Coy Phillips, of Eaton, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her first husband Hobart, Kathleen was preceded in death by her second husband, George McClain in 1989 and a brother, Ivan Justice.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on March 5, 2016 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. Private burial will be made at Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00 pm.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Dunkirk Mount Tabor Methodist Church, 216 W. Pleasant St., Dunkirk, IN 47336 or the donor’s charity of choice.
