EATON, IN
Cecil C. Brown, 80, passed away, Monday, May 21, 2012 at the
VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Marion.
He was born on July 17, 1931 in Morehead, Kentucky to Roy
and Lena (Clifford) Brown. He served his
country in the Army during the Korean War and married Patricia “Patty” Larmore
on October 15, 1955 in Hartford City.
He worked for Marhoefer, Rock Tenn and then Borg Warner for 17 years.
Cecil joined the Eaton Volunteer Fire Department in 1973
where he served as a first responder and Assistant Fire Chief. He also was instrumental in starting the
Eaton Fire Department Memorial Day Car Show.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Eaton Planning Committee,
Zoning Board, and was formerly the Parks Superintendent for the town of
Eaton. He was a former President of the
Eaton Baseball Association and helped start T-ball and softball leagues. Cecil was a member of the UAW Local 287 and
former union steward. In 1997, Cecil,
along with his wife Patricia, was presented with the Citizens of the Year
Award.
Cecil was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed baking and was an avid NASCAR
fan.
He is survived by two sons, John Brown (Paula) and David
Brown (Penny), three daughters, Sheila Parson (Bill), Tina Cooley (Steve), ,
and Fay Blair (Billy); 14 grandchildren: Tracy Carter, Jeremy, Steven and
Michael Cooley, Erin, Nathan, Adam and Justin Brown, Amanda and Billy Parson
(Lindsey), Christi and Joey Dalton, Manda Smith, and Stephanie Blair, 8
great-grandchildren; 5 brothers: Tommy Brown (Dolly), Robert Brown (Jean), Dick
Brown (Marge), Clifford Brown (Sharon), and Elwood Brown; two sisters, Nora
Alexander and Flora Glass (Larry),a sister-in-law, Vicky Buckner, as well as several nieces and nephews and
Cecil’s companion, Shirley Griffith.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his
wife, Patty, 4 sisters, Cora Carter, Ola Brown, Thelma Davis, and Virgie Ross,
2 brothers: Gene Brown, and Dewey Brown, and a grandson, Matthew Parson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday, May 26,
at the Eaton First Church of God, 700 E. Harris St., Eaton, with Pastor Andy
Denniston presiding. Burial with
Military Rites by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Union
Cemetery.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Friday, May 25,
from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St.,
Eaton and on hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be
directed to the Eaton First Church of God.
