Mark Gilland


Eaton, Indiana

Mark L. Gilland, 50, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014.

He was born on August 21, 1963 to LeRoy and Janice (Holdren) Gilland in Muncie, Indiana.

Mark graduated from Wes-Del High School and studied at Ivy Tech, earning several certifications.  He worked in Delaware Community Schools as well as Ball State University.

Mark loved golfing, fishing, the Green Bay Packers, and watching old movies with Doris Bailey.

Survivors include: two daughters, Stacy Upchurch (Brian), and Jennifer Gilland (fiancé, Chris Sides); a fiancé, Terri Ashcraft; her children that Mark loved as his own: Shanna Ashcraft (Jeremy Ward), Greg Ashcraft (Natalie); grandchildren: Vincent Upchurch, Carsyn Sides, Keirstan, Gage, Avah, and Meah Ashcraft; two brothers, Michael Gilland (Wanda), Douglas Gilland (fiancé, Jennifer Adams), four sisters: Vickie Green (Leslie), Valerie Dalton (Michael), Shirley Kurtz (Brian), and Sheryl Grant (Raymond), his nieces and nephews: Yolanda, Greg, Krystal, Janet, Kim, Stephanie, Shane, Heather, Rick, Jamie, Kenny, Keith, Kristy, Gavyn, Megan, Katie, Tyler, and Nicole, as well as several cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Janice, as well as a nephew, Michael Gilland, and a great-nephew, Quinten. 

Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, January 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St. Eaton.

Funeral Services will be private.

JOHN R. PENROD


EATON, IN
John R. Penrod, 55, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 23, 1958 to Edward and Patricia (Feltt) Penrod in Blackford County.
John was a boy scout as a kid and graduated from Delta High School in 1976. He then served his country in the United States Army.

He worked at Rock Tenn in Eaton for 13 years, and recently worked as a store manager at Cellular Connection.
John was a Colts season ticket holder for many years. He was active in local politics; serving as President on the Eaton Town Board. John belonged to the United Steel Workers Union 7-1106 at Rock Tenn and served as President. He also was active in his community by coaching youth baseball in Eaton.

Survivors include: a daughter, Brandy (Anthony) Bisking, of Middletown, NJ; three sons, Jeremy (Jamie) Penrod, of Muncie, Aaron (Whitney Rumfelt) Penrod, of Muncie, and Derrick (Hayley Burford) Penrod, of Eaton; three siblings, Stephen Penrod, of Eaton, Patrick (Sandy) Penrod, of Muncie, and Peggy Stogner, of Royerton; 5 grandchildren, Brooke-Lynn, Anthony, and Christian John Bisking, and Katelynn, and Abigail Penrod; 5 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Allen and Patricia June Penrod.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, with Pastor Andy Denniston officiating and Eulogy by Brad and Mitzi Rodgers. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie, with military honors by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, John’s wish was to have memorials to the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, with envelopes available at the funeral home, with a Colts helmet to deposit your expression of sympathy.
